Active learning is a process in which students are engaged in different activities; reading, writing, discussing, problem-solving that promote analysis and evaluating the learning content.
The term ‘Active Learning’ is first introduced and coined by English scholar R.W.Revans (1907 – 2003). According to R.W.Revans ‘Active learning’ is student’s participation in the learning process and student’s participation when they are doing something besides passive learning.


There is the various range of alternative for term Active Learning’ e.g. learning through play, group work, and technology-based learning and project based learning. Active learning is opposite to passive learning. For the effective active learning, a teacher should pay concentration on each and every student in the class. Participation in the discussion by all students is an important aspect of active learning. Many types of research have proven that active learning is a strategy that enhances the creativity, understanding and thinking level, and helps in the achievement of the goals. But sometimes, it is difficult for both students and teacher to adopt new techniques of learning.
There are many methods of active learning. Examples of active learning are given below,

A Class Discussion: it is very useful in active learning, but it is most suitable and efficient for a smaller group setting. This study helps to students or learners to think critically about the topic and use logic to evaluation. There are many advantages of class discussion; some are; it increases exceptional ability, helps to explore a diversity of perspective and give the better understanding.
A think- pair- share: it is an activity, when students take the time to ponder the previous lesson, and they share their knowledge with other students in class as part of a formal discussion. An instructor should clarify misconception during a formal debate. Think- Pair- Share is useful in a situation where students have already some information about a topic, and students relate that information to a discussion.
A learning cell: this concept was coined by Marcel Goldschmidt of a Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. A learning cell is a process, where two students study and learn to gather. Finally, both student asking question and answering on commonly read materials.

A Short Written Exercise: it is very useful way to review materials and provide feedback from students. This process helps to summarize the suggested content. The time is allowed to complete the exercise. The duration may be less than 10 minutes.
A Student debates: it is the most useful way of active learning. In this process, students gather information, discuss and share their point of views in the class. This debat give a chance to students not only participate in the discussion but also give some experience for oral presentation.
A Class Games: games are the very useful tool for active learning especially for early childhood education. It is the very energetic way of learning because learning through play develops the interest in students and encourage them for active learning. In this way, students not just enjoy but find out more efficiently.
In short, it may be said, active learning is critical for students. It helps to increase the efficiency of students.
